i want to tell you all the story of monk monk who stole my heart at the ripe age of 0. everybody has their stuffed animal they got when they were born. but my stuffed monkey has stayed with me until now. he's been through so much & i think it's so funny that to this day, i still haul him around with me.
when i was about 6, i left monk monk at my mom's friends house. he was there for months. and i was so sad without him. it was super hard to sleep at night without him. then one day, i went to my mom's friends & he was chilling on top of her fridge. i found him. alas.
when i was a little older than that, my family & i drove to idaho to visit my great grandpa joe. after getting in the car, 45 minutes later, i realized monk monk was missing. after frantically searching under the seats, between the cracks, and all around, i realized that he really was gone. 45 minutes from my grandpa's rest home, my mom said, "hunny. we've got to back." so we went back. and guess where he was? he was underneath the last car we parked near. he got ran over, that poor little monkey! but he was with me now & finally, we were together.
the year i got engaged to trevor, i took monk monk with me on a family vacay to the oregon coast. once we reached home, i realized i left him in the hotel. i called my aunt (because she lived near the hotel), and she went & picked him up for me. she's a lifesaver. i would have died without him. so she sent him to my house. i was away at college, so he was chilling at my parents house. my dad decided to hang him from his tail from their chandelier. a few minutes later, my mom looked over & saw that he was on fire. she ran & grabbed him and realized that part of his tail needed to be amputated. so she sewed him up. he still has some yellow burn marks on his back. once i noticed, my parents were laughing their heads off. and i couldn't help but laugh either. that poor guy has been through so much!
i always joke with people and tell them i wouldn't trade monk monk for $1,000,000. taxes already taken out & everything. i guess it's sort of a sentimental thing, too. mr. schroeder even fell in love with monk monk. we realized how important he is in our family & have been hauling him around with us.
i think mr. schroeder wanted to get his own monkey to ride along with him in his truck. meet the new addition to our family: spanky.
okay. we are seriously so weird. except i love it. but you know who really inspired my post? miss kelsey bang. she has a monkey herself, named tuna. we talk about how our monkey's need to meet soon. i think it should happen pronto.
does anybody still have a stuffed animal or blanket from their childhood they still carry around? maybe we're the only ones, i don't know. i hope everyone's week is fabulous!!
