Whenever I'm explaining my religion to my friends, I am always asked this question. Many people believe we go worship in the temples every Sunday. That isn't the case! I found the perfect thing on Pinterest to depict what the difference is between LDS temples and LDS chapels.
This picture basically explains it all. Mormon chapels are open to all visitors - people who are Mormons and people who are not Mormons. On Sundays, we attend the chapels. And what do we do in there? We sing, pray, teach each other about the gospel, and take the sacrament. We also baptize new members of the church in our church buildings. Then there's temples. Temples are reserved for the most holy ordinances, like sealings for eternal marriages. Mr. Schroeder and I got married in the Salt Lake City temple and I can honestly say it was the most amazing experience I have ever had.
