A Whole Lotta Word Vomit

I haven't blogged in awhile. I have a massive amount of words in my head as to everything I need to write about. But for now, I need yet another break. Mr. Schroeder and I are trying to buy a home. We have been in the process for about 3 months now. May I just say that underwriters are stupid? I understand that it's a difficult and long process to buy a house. It's a big deal! On the other hand, in my opinion, here is what should really matter.

-How much you make
-How long you've been working
-How long you've had a steady income
-Your credit
-The amount of bills you've paid on time
-Your assets

That should be it. Maybe give or take one or two things that really do matter. The underwriters have wanted my loan agency to call my work 3 times this week. Why? Oh, just to make sure I still work there. I swear I'm going to get fired just because of how annoying they are.

They've also asked a company where Trevor gets his work from if they can write a letter explaining what kind of installer Trevor is. HE WORKS FOR HIMSELF. Why in the world do they need to bring other companies into it? Mr. Schroeder has worked for 21 months making a steady income. We have no debt. Our credit is phenomenal. We make enough money. We pay 100% of our bills on time. What's the deal, folks?

We were supposed to close at the end of May. But, ya know, things happen. We moved out of our home too :) So at this point, we're completely wingin it. I'mma take a teensy break, until we close on our home, then I'll be in full swing of writing again. I do miss it. I just gotta do all dis' adult responsibility yucky stuff.

  1. I have heard buying real estate is the worst. My father in law bought a building and used his son as the underwriter and at the end of the process they both decided to never do that kind of work together again! But congrats on buying the house, I am jealous!

  2. Poor girl! Buying a house can be so crazy! When we bought ours we were supposed to close in the end of January but weren't able to until April. By then we'd been married a month and still didn't have a place. We ended up staying with my grandma. Buying a house seriously is madness. I'm here if you need to vent!

  4. Bah, yay underwriters.. seriously... they make things so difficult! We had your guys' struggles easy, they just didn't like what we wanted to do with our loan. But seriously, you guys have your finances perfectly ready to go, why can't they just accept that?!

  8. Stay on top of them, call them every day. We went through this a couple of years ago and it's a royal pain. I think part of the problem is most mortgage lending personnel lost their jobs during the big recession. Now you have new regulations plus inexperienced people, this is not a good combination. It also seems like the personnel don't care at all about the quality and speed of their work. Best of luck as you own your first home.
